Straight from the land of pleasant living

There are many ways to splurge while on vacation. There are also many ways to save. We took an especially economical route on our first night in Baltimore by letting friends treat us to 94-cent specialty Baltimore beer commonly known as Natty Boh, hoity-toitally known as National Bohemian.

Leave it to me to start off a vacation recap with a photo of beer, but I really must document this chronologically, and that is honestly how it began. And for the rest of the time we were in Baltimore, that little one-eyed mustache man followed us around ev-er-y-where, even when we weren't drinking it.

Before we left on our journey east, I made a simple list of things I like to do while on vacation. One of them happened to be drinking beer not found in the northwest (check), but another one was seeing a local band play at some modest venue...for free. Success was found on Fleet Street at the Tyson tavern. The lead singer's parents were also there - they had just flown in that night, too, from Denver.

Joel thought this scene could have easily been set in Spokane, but to me there was something in the air that made it feel different, but maybe it was just my brain exclaiming, "Yay, you're on vacation!" and "Yes, you're TOTALLY on vacation!" (Over the course of the week, my brain began to construct new and much more complex thoughts.)

Stained glass above the tavern door, warm and bright.

More ways to splurge and save, coming to you in the next few days.
