Craft #1: The tablecloth skirt.
I stumbled upon a book earlier this spring called Sew What! Skirts by Francesca Denhartog & Carole Ann Camp in which you learn how to make your own skirt patterns, and naturally, skirts. I liked the idea of it - it seems like just good basic knowledge to have regarding what things you must factor in when making your own clothes, e.g., seam allowances, ease, hem. I figured if I could learn how to make my own skirt pattern, I might be more daring to embellish my skirts, and eventually, venture beyond skirts. I bought some cheap fabric to practice on, and cheap wrapping paper to cut out my pattern. I highly recommend that wrapping paper that has the grids on the underside. I haven't cut out anything yet, but I just wanted to note that this was the first time I have pulled out my old calculator in who knows how long.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to explain the "tablecloth" part. I just bought an inexpensive retro reproduction souvenir tablecloth to make into a skirt, once I figure out if my pattern really does work. I'll keep you all posted.
Craft #2, Animal #1: Felties and Keiko
Last week I was invited to attend a craft night at my friend Mariah's called "The Fun We Felt," where another Mariah showed us the wonders and fun to be found in making little stuffed felt toys. She gave us the pattern and all the supplies, and this apartment full of men and women went to town making birds and trees. I finished the tree that night. When I was hanging out at Kat's later that week, I brought my felties to finish. Keiko just hung out with us waiting for the right moments to grab our embroidery floss. Little did she know she was about to make two little feltie friends.
Animal #2: Super zoom squirrel
This isn't really anything, but this weekend as I was killing time before heading out of town, I was sitting on my front step and watched this squirrel for a really long time. I got to zoom in really close to see exactly what it was doing. It kept burrowing its head in the grass, and finally came up with this:

I know I've said this before, but I wish I had you in Boise to tap into your crafty cuteness! :) Ok, I was going to say I love the idea of learning to sew (but don't want to have to buy a sewing machine) and making skirts, etc., then remembered that I felt the same excitement seeing a crocheted skirt in my crochet book, and I have yet to assemble more than three stitches in a row. My craftiness is apparently a long work in progress....:)
