After work I mosied over to The Elk to meet some folks for a beer. It was the first really nice day in an eternity, and as I walked down there in my jeans and t-shirt, I was envisioning myself taking more of these kinds of walks, wearing summery skirts and espadrilles, with my new cute purse slung over my shoulder and my sunglasses hurting my head.
After my beer, I got hungry and ordered that delicious raspberry viniagrette salad, and then to top off a great post-work celebration, one of the people in our group insisted upon paying the tab for all of us. I always feel funny about letting someone I barely know pay for that sort of thing, but she was insistent. Well, I always get excited when I don't have to pay for stuff, so I practically skipped back home.
That skip-trip inspired me to return to finish the skirt I've been working on for over a week. I started it having only sewn the one apron when my mom was in town. It's wonderful having a good teacher to show you tricks and tell you immediately if you're doing it right or not doing it right, but unfortunately I haven't had time to start that sewing class that meets on Tuesday nights like I'd hoped. So I got out my sewing book and consulted it as I read the pattern directions. A skirt seemed simple enough, especially this one. Just four pattern pieces and a lot of basic sewing. So I just did it. If I didn't understand how to do something, I just took a break and returned to it the next day. Usually it would become clear after letting it sit. I guess that's why it's taken me nearly 2 weeks to finish this.
Anyhoo, all I had left last night was to finish the waist and hem the bottom.
And then I finished it! I hopped up on the chair with glee.
"Are my friends coming over yet?" I guess not. By this time it was nearly midnight and I was a little rummy.
I have made something I can wear in public. Mission accomplished.
