This past weekend I hopped in the car and headed off to Scappoose to visit my kind, wonderful brother Dave (don't let the Onion article fool you) and his beautiful family o' girls. What a lucky guy he is. And what a lucky aunt and sis-in-law I am.
Megan's Saturday morning soccer game reminded me of those couple of times I used to think I was pretty good at soccer. And to me, being "good at soccer" meant staying out of the really good kids' way, and then if the ball just happened to land in my vicinity, I would skip over to it and hit it with the tip of my foot (no idea about form), with my leg flailing in the air. And then, lucky me, the ball would land near a good player on my team who could successfully make a goal. Because of my inexperienced kick! That would make my recess, and quite possibly my day.
Megan was way more advanced than I ever was, but she's all about good-naturedness, too.
Here we are, me and Emily waiting for the German delights just beyond the waiting area at the Rhinelander Restaurant in Portland.
Oh they're just so cute.
I'm still savoring this meal - an experience, really - in my mind. The moment we walked into the main part of the restaurant, there was something in the air that reminded me of a wonderful aroma in a cozy kitchen on Ranch Road.
There was a whole lotta game-playin' this weekend, too. Mostly a game called Skip-Bo, for those people too afraid to call it what it is - Spite and Malice. There's a whole lotta Spite when Aunt Liz plays, too. No mercy, even for such sweet nieces. Hmmm, sorry!
Ah...such fun in Scappoose.
