Wedding reunions

Last month, my friend Robin got married.

Robin is a friend from high school I have kept in touch with in a very non-traditional way for girls of our generation - about every few months or so, ever since our freshman year in college, we've sent each other letters. Hand-written, on pretty stationery, with a postage stamp. Sometimes on postcards. We may not have a regular routine down, but each letter I find in my mailbox is always such a treat. It's one of those moments where I just have to kind of stop and sigh, and then I think to myself, "Lucky girl! I bet I'm the only one in this entire apartment building who got a letter - an actual letter - from an old school friend today."

The reasons Robin and I are friends are many, but the one that stands out is our mutual appreciation for the old fashioned methods and ways of living. I'm not talking about churning butter or anything, although I wouldn't put it past us for loving the process of making things from scratch, being patient and not caring much about convenience.

Robin is the kind of person that epitomizes idealism. As long as I've known her, she's been passionate about causes, loves all things romantic, uses the word "lovely" a lot, makes lists about what she is thankful for, and is such a good person to know. Her wedding communicated those same ideals - and what's even better is that it was all real. Genuine joy, simple elegance, incorporating things you love. Really, it was lovely.

And of course we know that weddings are really mini-reunions. Other high school friends of mine - most notably, members of the ol' "Lunch Bunch" - were all in attendance, but this time, we weren't eating baked potatoes at Mom & Dad's. Instead we were drinking grown-up beverages watching our newlywed friend gracefully work the crowd.

There was a lot of talk like, "Was New Years Eve SERIOUSLY the last time I saw you? Like, 5 years ago??" Crazy, because it didn't seem like it.

And then, of course, there are the old friends you see every single time you go home, and it's always sweet. Like these awesome ice cream cones (Robin's alternative choice to the traditional wedding cake - brilliant!).

Oh my gosh, I'm so excited to stumble upon a blog written, in part, about... me! So fun. :) (I almost used a neat word for you there, "titillated," but then in looking up the right spelling, found a nuance of the word that didn't seem quite appropriate, if that's how people were going to take it. :) )

Ah, lunch brunch, memories. It was so lovely having you, and everyone share the day, and since being married, I'm serious, nesting, and cuteness, is just rising up inside me stronger than ever (even though we kind of are still in living situation limbo) and I think that the letters (and cute activities that we would both enjoy if only you lived here!) are going to get stepped up a bit. :) I have to say, give me two years, and I will be not just a Domestic Goddess-in-training, but a Domestic Goddess Extraordinaire! :) And to me, that encapsulates all things cute. :)

Well, thank you for the post- I'm glad you had a great time. :)
