Just over five years ago, my friend Crystal and I set out on a spring break roadtrip from Spokane to Boise to Portland. That was before the days of my digital camera, but it is well-documented from my regular film camera. I also made 3 CD compilations for us to listen to on that trip. They were just as silly as we were. A good song like "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" would be followed up by a real bomb like The Partridge Family/David Cassidy's "I Woke Up In Love This Morning" or better yet, Earth Wind & Fire's "Fantasy" (the Live in Japan version where their falsetto soars into a realm absolutely unheard of for a male vocalist).
So last weekend, we found ourselves on another roadtrip to Portland. Crystal brought along those CD's. Wow. Wow, wow, wow.
We stopped at Multnomah for a second on the way.
Once we got into Portland, it was time for dinner, followed by karaoke. Musical breaks like these that call attention to the musical break are always awkward for both the singer and the listener.
Crystal's mom and dad came, too, along with Crystal's brother and his girlfriend. My major highlight of the evening was that two of my old roommates came out to the karaoke celebration. Liz on the left, from the Stevens Street House, and Laura on the right, from the Ballard basement.
(from the looks of what was behind us, we were able to bring a little class to the joint)
