I've done my part to stimulate the economy

A smidge more than three years ago, I bought my first digital camera. It's the only digital camera I've ever known and I have loved it...although for the last year and a half it has been finicky. I must admit, I haven't taken good care of it. The display is all scratched up, the corner is cracked, and it just looks like it's been everywhere. I guess that's because for the past three years, its home has been at the bottom of my purse. It often ends up doing what I want it to, after a little TLC. Sometimes the display won't work, and sometimes it takes blank photos, or photos with lines across it. Despite all these annoyances, I've loved the overall photo quality for the majority of the photos I've taken with this basic point-and-shoot camera (Canon A85).

But about a week ago, I decided I'd had enough. First, it stopped focusing. Like here:

Then, when my friends and I were having our "little black dress night," the display screen made some weird design of shades of purple and the camera would shut off. All those photos I posted from that night were taken with the others' cameras because mine simply would not work.

So...I decided to make a tiny splurge and purchase a new Canon that I'd been eyeing for a little while. It's a beefed-up point and shoot with a super 10x zoom, and it's just really exciting to me. It looks like this:

And it takes photos like this:

Hooray! for new digital cameras. I've been using the Canon Powershot S3 IS for about a year and a half now, and I'm loving it.
