Today I made a trip to the Tri-Cities to hear the boys play at a winery. As it so happened, this was also the second Saturday of the month, which means that the LIGO Hanford Observatory was giving a free tour!! This is a state-of-the-art place where you can measure the gravitational waves of the universe, i.e., waves created by collisions of neutron stars. This is one of two locations in the country where this is measured.
Here is one of the original machines built in the 1960s to measure the waves. Hooray for science and brilliant people!
