This is a baby amaryllis. I always see these being sold everywhere around this time of year, so I thought I'd try one to see what all the hoopla is about. It came with a compressed soil mix that you have to soak in warm water, fluff it up with a fork, and then plant the amaryllis bulb. I don't think I got enough soil, but I don't think it will be too much of a problem. I've seen those things growing through the box on the clearance racks after Christmas.
